The woven mat lies softly across the warm sand, its edges slightly rumpled from use, while the linen parasol casts a small pool of shade beside the water. Our ginger-haired girl sits barefoot at the edge of the mat, one knee drawn up, quietly looking toward the calm sea as if she has nowhere else to be. Her small family dog is stretched comfortably beside her, half in the shade, half in the sunlight, completely at home already. A woven beach bag rests nearby, with a book, a bottle of water and a few simple summer things spilling naturally from it. A tiny sprig of lavender is tucked into the handle, our quiet recurring symbol. The sea is almost motionless, reflecting the soft morning sky. Far beyond the shoreline, the distant island and the faint silhouette of Mount Athos remain veiled in silver haze, now barely more than a dream on the horizon.
