The quiet morning after last night’s supper has turned into an unexpected little theatre. Our ginger-haired girl is still hanging the freshly washed white tablecloth along the old rope between the warm stone walls when the donkey decides to investigate. Somehow, he has wandered directly behind the hanging cloth. Now the white fabric drapes over his entire head and body like a little ghost costume, moving softly in the Mediterranean breeze. Only his four legs remain visible beneath it, awkwardly stepping and shifting as he proudly plays his mysterious new role. One corner lifts just enough to reveal the tip of an ear. She stands beside him laughing, reaching for the cloth to rescue her ridiculous little ghost before he walks straight into something. The cat watches from the steps, completely unimpressed, as if this performance has happened many times before. A tiny sprig of lavender hangs from the washing line, caught among the white fabric, while the blue sea glimmers beyond the courtyard. Impasto builds the thick, tactile linen, rough limestone, weathered rope and soft donkey coat, making every surface feel touchable. Palette Knife gives the courtyard its strong handmade structure, shaping the walls, steps, hanging cloth and playful figure beneath it.
