The quiet morning has grown warmer, and our ginger-haired girl finally leaves her little place beneath the olive tree. She rises from the woven mat, slips off her light beach clothes and walks barefoot toward the water, carrying nothing but a small linen towel. Her deep copper-red dachshund follows close behind, trotting eagerly toward the shoreline as if this were an important expedition. She pauses where the warm sand becomes cool and damp, letting the first thin wave curl around her ankles. Her ginger hair falls loosely over her shoulders, catching the soft Mediterranean light. She looks down at the water with a small, peaceful smile, then takes another step. Behind her, the open parasol, woven mat and beach bag remain beneath the olive tree, while the little sprig of lavender still rests naturally in the bag's handle — our quiet symbol following her from scene to scene.
