ArtistChapter 37 – The Road That Was Closed on Purpose Part 3 – The Choice Mara Made Before She Remembered Making It REFERENCE IMAGES: Use CR-01a for Mara and CR-15 for the Vanished Wizard. Preserve both appearances exactly. Realistic painterly cinematic fantasy storybook illustration, 4:3 landscape. Keep the successful composition of the previous image: TWO versions of Mara facing each other at one solitary black doorway, with the Vanished Wizard watching nearby. IMPORTANT CORRECTION: The partially forming Cottage must NOT appear on the grassy hill outside the doorway. The freestanding BLACK RECTANGULAR DOORWAY is a portal into a separate grey dimension. Outside the doorway is ONLY a lonely misty grassy hill. FIRST MARA stands outside on the grassy hill, matching CR-01a exactly: gold-blond hair, green tunic, dark trousers, brown boots, green ribbon around her wrist. SECOND MARA stands INSIDE the doorway on a narrow black road in the grey dimension. She has exactly the same face, hair and clothing as Mara but looks more tired and solemn. Her green ribbon has two knots. The Vanished Wizard stands outside beside the doorway, matching CR-15 exactly, holding his twisted wooden staff, glowing bottles at his belt. CRITICAL: Behind SECOND MARA, THROUGH THE DOORWAY and DEEP INSIDE THE GREY DIMENSION, the narrow BLACK ROAD continues far into the distance. At the distant end of that road, show the Cottage ONLY PARTLY FORMING from mist: fragments of wooden walls, part of a roof and one warm glowing window. It is incomplete and supernatural. The forming Cottage, the entire black road and the grey dimension must ALL remain INSIDE the rectangular boundaries of the portal. Outside the doorway: ONLY grass, mist, Mara and the Vanished Wizard. Inside the doorway: SECOND MARA, black road, grey dimension and distant forming Cottage. Do not allow the black road to cross onto the grassy hill. The two Maras look directly at each other across the threshold. Emotional focus: recognition, melancholy and a difficult choice, not combat. Soft grey mist, distant warm light, windblown grass and hair, strong depth, realistic painterly textures, cinematic fantasy storybook atmosphere. No Aven, no additional people, no captions, letters or numbers. Bottom-right: small white full-body unicorn watermark with “AI by Unicorngraphics”.

Chapter 37 The Road That Was Closed on Purpose Part 3 The Choice Mara Made Before She Remembered Making It
“That you were the one who came back.” Mara stared at Aven. “I was one of the seven.” “Yes.” “Then I cannot also be the eighth.” Aven looked toward the silver square. “That is what you told me.” The figure inside it still wore the green ribbon. Tiktora’s reader chimed. Seven black marks surrounded the silver one. Horologia touched the display. “Perhaps the eighth was not another person.” Memoris’s letter darkened. THE ROAD RETURNED WHAT HAD NOT YET LEFT. Mara read the sentence twice. “Me.” Aven closed their eyes. “You reached the destination before you crossed the road.” Mara touched the black fragment. The wall vanished again. The empty hill returned, but two moments occupied it at once. On one side stood Mara before the journey, the ribbon around her wrist. On the other stood the Mara who had returned. Between them stretched the first road. The vanished wizard stood in its centre. “You found her too early,” he told Aven. “We found nobody,” Aven replied. “The road did.” Earlier Mara looked toward her other self. “Is she me?” “She remembers being you.” “That was not my question.” The wizard’s face tightened. “It is the only answer I have.” The returned Mara stepped closer. She looked exactly like Mara, but exhaustion filled her eyes. “Close it,” she said. Earlier Mara stared at her. “Why?” “Because I remember what happens if you don’t.” “You came from the future?” “No. I came from the place the road made possible.” Aven whispered, “The Cottage.” Returned Mara shook her head. “Not yet.” Behind her the distant doorway flickered. Wooden walls appeared around it. “Every time the road reaches the destination, it remembers more of itself.” The wizard frowned. “How much?” “Enough to remember us. Enough to call us back.” A knock travelled along the road. Earlier Mara touched her ribbon. “What happens if we leave it open?” Returned Mara met her eyes. “Eventually it remembers the wrong beginning.” Above the road appeared 55 — 0 — 55. Mara stared at the zero. “The moment between both sides.” The memory shifted. The two Maras stood beside the doorway. Returned Mara held out her ribbon. It had two knots. “One for the beginning. One for the end.” Earlier Mara touched the second knot. Images passed between them: the Cottage, fifty-four moments, closing doors, forgotten names, the eighth chair and Mara returning again to the road. “How many times?” Earlier Mara asked. “Enough.” “Why don’t I remember?” “Because each time you remember, the road finds you again.” Aven stepped forward. “Then destroy it.” “You cannot destroy a road whose destination remembers it.” The wizard looked toward the forming Cottage. “But we can close it.” Returned Mara nodded. “Only if someone forgets why.”
