Prompt

A Roman-style street with Roman-style houses on either side. Anthropomorphic ants walk on their hind legs down the sidewalks wearing tunics or togas. On the streets, carts pulled by beetles are steered by anthropomorphic ants that sit on the coach box and wear rough spun tunics and hold the reins with their front legs. In the background a large door with a metal sign hanging above it. The metal sign depicts a hammer hovering over an anvil. In the foreground, an anthropomorphic ant in a Roman-style tunic stands in a doorway. Purrsephone, an anthropomorphic orange and roundish cat, talks to the ant in the doorway. Purrsephoney wears red robes, a red cloak and carries a rapier in a sheath attached to her belt.

More about Asking the Neighbors

Purrsephone leaves the smithy to talk to the neighbors. Her goal is to find any hint as to how the smith left and where he went or even may have gone. The neighbors are very supportive, though they have little to say on the things that interest her most. They tell her that the smith was a private sort of ant. He worked hard and rarely spoke to anyone. He had neither partner nor children, as far as anyone knows. He had an apprentice who was even more tight-lipped. This apprentice seemed to be afraid of his master. One neighbor remembers seeing him wince when his master called him. And the apprentice seemed to be responsible for all the menial tasks.
As to how he left, no one seems to know. The neighbors unanimously remember noticing one day that all activity in the smithy had stopped. Since the smith had no close friends, no one missed him, until they needed something. It was one of the smith's most reputable customers who entered the smithy one day to find it abandoned. The customer was a rich silk merchant by the name of Antonius Sericus.
