A large cavern deep underground, the walls are made of seams of colored marble, in white, beige, amber-yellow, pink and pale blue. Hanging from the ceiling are chandeliers made of silver with ornaments of pink and blue sapphires. Stairs and corridors lead from the great cavern in an Escher-style manner. Huge, elegantly carved double doors of dark wood lined with brightly polished bronze fittings lead to the surface. A variety of anthropomorphic animals such as cats, dogs, otters, snakes and moles walk through the hall or up and down the stairs. All wear simple brown cowls held at the waist with cords of colors such as white, yellow, blue, green and brown. In the center of the room, two anthropomorphic animals gaze at the cavern in amazement. The first is Agatha, an anthropomorphic German spaniel with uniform glossy reddish-brown fur that shimmers in the light. Agatha wears an elegant dark green dress and carries a brown leather bag on its right side with the strap of the bag draped over the spaniel's left shoulder. The second is Dogula, an anthropomorphic Transylvanian hound. Dogula wears black robes and a black cloak with a high collar and prominently shows his long canines protruding past his lower lip. They are seen from behind. Facing them is a wizened old mole in a brown cowl fastened with a black cord.

More about The School of Earth Magic

There are five schools of magic in the world. Lord Dogula has studied at each of them in his quest to better serve the Moon Goddess and ensure that the nameless evil he fought so long ago would never return. This means, he is familiar with all of the schools of magic and easily gains entry there. The one closest to Antonesia is the School of Earth Magic. Deep under an enchanted mountain its winding paths are a labor of love from its builders, its students. Each student leaves its own mark to show their skills, and so the halls continually grow, welcoming more students each year. The Archmage of Earth Magic, Craig Marble, welcomes his old friend Lord Dogula and Agatha Misty. He has heard of their quest and wishes to help any way he can. He invites them to the record halls, where the archivist is busy searching for clues to Lord Laverno's past. Meanwhile Lord Dogula tells Craig Marble about the enchanted hammer and anvil that Athena saw in the smithy.
“This is undeniably earth magic,” Craig Marble exclaims. “To think that it should be thus abused is horrifying!”
“I have found him,” the archivist exclaims placing a large ledger on a table. “He joined the school and passed a few classes, though he never graduated.”
Agatha Misty studies the ledger. “It seems,” she points out, “That he only ever did well in classes with male teachers.”
“This was noted at the time,” the archivist agrees. “He was insolent towards his female teachers, he never respected them and never took their classes seriously. When he inevitably failed, he blamed the teachers for being biased against him.”
“Which classes did he pass?” Lord Dogula wants to know.
“Metallurgy and basic geology,” the archivist reads from the ledger. “He failed soils and crystallography. He passed igneous rocks but failed both sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, he passed gemstones though. But he was failing too many classes and his attitude annoyed everyone, so he was not allowed to continue his studies.”
