ArtistA small, cozy cavern with walls of green and orange marble. In a hearth, a small fire emanates a warm glow. An elegant table made of polished granite surrounded by four ornate granite chairs with soft green and orange cushions on them. Sitting in the chairs are four anthropomorphic animals. The first is Agatha, an anthropomorphic German spaniel with uniform glossy reddish-brown fur that shimmers in the light. Agatha wears an elegant dark green dress and carries a brown leather bag on its right side with the strap of the bag draped over the spaniel's left shoulder. The second is Dogula, an anthropomorphic Transylvanian hound. Dogula wears black robes and a black cloak with a high collar and prominently shows his long canines protruding past his lower lip. The third is Craig, an anthropomorphic wizened old mole in a brown cowl fastened with a black cord. The fourth is Flint, an anthropomorphic fox in a brown cowl fastened with a black cord.
“How can he have been admitted to gemstones, if he never passed crystallography?” Lord Dogula asks. “I thought that was a requirement for admittance.”
“It is,” Craig Marble admits. “We still don't know what happened.”
He leads them to a small room and orders that refreshments are to be brought for them. He also introduces them to another master at the school.
“This is Flint Beastwood, our Master of Gemstones,” Craig Marble says. “He admitted Lord Laverno into his class.”
“I don't know what happened,” Flint Beastwood assures them. “I remember telling him that he needed to pass crystallography first. He argued, begged, cajoled, I kept telling him no. He insisted. Then, somehow my memory is all muddled. It's as if he had some really good arguments which I can't recall. I do remember thinking how very charming he was and couldn't understand why some of my colleagues disliked him.”
“This is interesting,” Lord Dogula says. “Do you think he could have used some kind of charisma charm or memory spell on you?”
“Possible,” Flint Beastwood answers after thinking about this possibility for a little while. “But if he did, he didn't learn it at this school. We do not teach such magic here.”
“I know,” Lord Dogula replies. “He would have had to have gone to the School of Air Magic or the School of Water Magic. They sometimes give special courses on airs, graces and showmanship.”
