::SHE+ILA:: 's Classes are accessible by a Global Segment called ::CLASSES:: . It is reachable from every User Account, and contains in its Buf's symbol table the names of all the useful Classes, thereby making them discoverable and instantiateable. (MS-Windows used its Registry for a similar purpose). Authorised Users may insert their own public Classes into this collection, in order to make libraries of utility functions and record types etc. available globally to all other users. For example, print formatting utilities similar to printf(), input parsing utilities, costing and invoicing utilities, sorting utilities, and graphics utilities.
A User may explore the domain of Classes available, by cataloguing the ::CLASSES:: Segment :
CAT ::CLASSES::
and then instantiate one or derive their own Class from one :
MyClass <::- ::CLASSES:: . Bitmap
or
MyBill <::- ::CLASSES:: . Costing
or insert their own custom Class into the Class Library by saying
::CLASSES:: << MyClass
Due to ::SHE+ILA:: 's built-in continual persistence feature (the ::CKPT:: thread) it will automatically be saved and discoverable by CAT ::CLASSES:: for use by other users.
Entries may of course by set to be read-only, protected, or locked, by means of the usual access safety features.
