A depiction of Richard III's death at hands of Henry Tudor's forces at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. Richard was the last English king to die in battle. According to eyewitness accounts, Richard's army was struck by a flank attack by those of the Earl of Stanley, who changed sides at the last minute. Thus betrayed, Richard and his personal bodyguards made a desperate charge up the rise where Henry Tudor and his party were watching the battle--the embattled reigning king hoping to engage the upstart pretender in personal combat. They never made it but were, one by one, unhorsed and cut down. For this image I imagined Richard all alone, without crown or followers, unbowed and determined to meet his end as the lifelong soldier he was. The model is Adam Driver, obviously.
