ArtistA mosaic made entirely of small pieces of stone, in the style of Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, in brilliant high-contrast glassy colors, with gold outlines, of a large, flat-sided sea stack rising out of a choppy ocean under a clear sky. The sea stack is a massive, blocky monolith with a nearly vertical front face and right edge, and a stepped, shelf-like profile on the left edge. The sea stack made of pale tan, cream, and buff-colored sedimentary rock with fine, closely spaced horizontal layering, like pages in a book. The bedding looks thin and even, which suggests fine-grained marine sediment such as sandstone or mudstone. The flat top is capped with a higher crown of darker brown rock and sparse, gray-green scrubby vegetation. Faint diagonal fractures and joints cross the main face, and there are some small pits and hollows from weathering, especially on the left side. At the foot of the stack, a low, dark rock platform extends outward toward the left and right. It’s a wave-cut terrace, flattened by long-term erosion. On the right, seawater is spilling off the platform’s edge in dozens of thin, parallel white cascades, almost like a row of miniature waterfalls. This happens when a swell recedes and drains off the flat, exposed shelf. The platform’s face is dark and wet, with visible layered bedding and a bit of marine growth near the waterline. The foreground is deep, saturated blue-navy water with a rough, wind-ruffled surface and small whitecaps and foam streaks. On the left, a swell is breaking over the rocky ledge, throwing up white spray and showing a translucent teal-green wave face. The water looks active and turbulent, with the view at sea level. The sky is a clean, cloudless gradient, pale blue near the horizon deepening slightly toward the top, with a thin, hazy horizon line visible on the right. The stack fills the center and right, and the dark water anchors the bottom third. The warm tan rock against the cool blues makes a strong complementary color contrast. The light is bright and even, with soft shadows that let the rock’s texture show clearly.
