Backstory :

Planet Aegir, an Earth-like "water-world," hosts Dig Site 006 – one of many military installations constructed by the Builder-Folk (BF). This species was long extinct by the time human settlers arrived on their homeworld. The settlers named the system's Yellow Giant star "Ymir" due to its numerous gas giants, drawing a parallel to the Norse progenitor of giants. They named this planet "Aegir," after the Norse sea giant, fitting for its oceanic nature, despite significant desertification that occurred during the Builder-Folk's Extinction Interval.

Archaeologists attribute the damage to this particular installation to wars fought between BF nation-states, driven by dwindling resources. These conflicts were merely a symptom of a larger, fatal issue: the Builder-Folk, like many species, failed to transcend capitalism in time. They could not implement the drastic measures, including the abolition of private property rights, that were necessary for their survival.
