This picture cries out for a back-story, so here's what I have so far : given her picture here, she must have been most active in the early 20th century ; she's a polymath student of science, literature, and history, and she is angry that she cannot get recognition for her gifts because she is a woman ; she speaks Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and reads Latin and classical Greek ; she works in social services though she doesn't have to work ; and, she is a reformer supporting suffrage and opposing income inequality, causing her to butt heads with her family, especially her father. She paints skillfully and even designs and makes her own clothing. I got my inspiration from the young woman in TRUE GRIT, and wondered what she would be like if she were a Boston Brahmin and not of Western pioneer stock.
