The Devourer of Footsteps does not chase the living — it follows where they have been. It consumes traces, not bodies. Every step a person takes leaves behind more than a mark in the dirt; it leaves intention, memory, presence. The Devourer feeds on these remnants. At first, nothing seems wrong. Travelers walk their paths as always. But slowly, something begins to feel off. Landmarks become unfamiliar. Roads seem shorter, or longer, or simply wrong. Conversations about shared journeys no longer align. Eventually, entire pasts begin to dissolve. If the Devourer consumes enough of a person’s path, it is as if they were never there at all. People forget them, places deny them, even their own memories begin to fragment. Those affected often retrace their steps in desperation — but there is nothing left to find. The Devourer leaves no trail, only absence. And once it has fully consumed a path, the traveler has nowhere left to return to.
