Like her husband, The Third Son's Wife is devout, and like her husband she is very talented, being an accomplished singer and musician as well as a clever poetess, and she has read widely, making her a capable conversationalist. She is raising her children to be accomplished, and she nurtures them and guides them to think for themselves, although the Patriarch disapproves, saying that she is raising her daughters to be un-marriageable. While this younger daughter is competent in her studies, she secretly wishes that she could someday be married and surrounded by children of her own.
