It was said that, once, long ago, she had been a poor, desperate child, who made a dark pact with a spirit in exchange for a fortune. Her hands, once empty, were soon adorned with gold and jewels—especially the glittering rupees that she would clutch fiercely to her chest.But the wealth came at a terrible price. The rupees were cursed, and with them came a curse on the girl herself. She died young, and her spirit, bound to the riches she had sought so desperately, could not rest. She wandered the jungle, drawn to the ruins of the temple where she had first made her deal, and every night, her ghostly figure could be seen, her body flickering like candlelight, her hands clasped around the rupees that never seemed to tarnish.The villagers spoke of her with fear. They said that if you ever crossed her path and caught sight of the rupees she held, you would be cursed, too—your fate tied to hers. And yet, no one dared speak too loudly about her, for the Rupee Girl was not the only spirit that haunted the jungle.
There was also the elephant.
The elephant, once a proud and noble creature, had been a guardian of the jungle, a beast of great strength and wisdom, revered by all. It had wandered the thick forest, leading the herds, guiding the smaller creatures through perilous paths. But over time, it grew more restless, more irritable.
