My appreciation of DDG is a result of several years of practice during which I have also used various similar websites, but have always found my way back to the DDG. DDG is a very unique AI Art generator. Apart from generating incredible images with awesome custom models, it has features which make it a very friendly place with a sense of community (image comments, personal messages). The web interface is very well done, and the generation process is easy and usually very fast. Also, the latest update introduced a set of new, powerful models and very useful tools, like the Visual Prompt or the AI Editor with inpainting. I really think it’s worth a try if you are into AI Art.
I am a passionate scientist and a benevolent person. I like to understand things and to support people. I have ideas all the time and I write quite well, but I have never been given any practical artistic skill to express these ideas. I joined DDG a bit by coincidence at the end of 2022 and since then, it does play an important role in my daily life, in two main respects. First, the AI allows me to turn abstract thoughts into flabbergasting images by merely... typing them! I am often myself very surprised by the result. On the one hand, the AI (in particular the latest AIVision model) grasps remarkably well my wishes, not only for content and style, but also now for emotions! On the other hand, it always adds a little something unexpected to the images, which often ends up triggering again new ideas in my head. Second, DDG is in some way also a social network. You find on this site a sensitive, art-oriented, and remarkably benevolent community. There is no trolling here. Because art is often the mirror of people's preoccupations, the exchanges can become warm and personal (even though anonymous), and always in a friendly and supportive way.
I always dreamed of being able to draw well. But I never had the talent or ability for that. I absolutely love Deep Dream Generator! I heard about it 3 years ago and have been creating with it ever since. Almost a year ago, I was looking for a tool to create AI-generated images. I tried a few platforms and I stayed with DDG the longest and spent the most time. What made the difference for me?
DDG is not just a tool, but also a social network. The rules in the network are kind of clear and comprehensible. The interaction between users is characterized by respect. You rarely find disturbing content here. This also means that there are filters and it can happen that your own content is blocked. DDG is therefore not a suitable tool for creating disturbing and extremely provocative content. One could therefore also speak of censorship, but I think that would be an exaggeration. It's a wonderful tool if you're looking for a relatively safe public digital space.
Another difference I see from other platforms is that the focus is not on the technical aspect of AI, but rather on the emotions and possibilities of expression, which in return provide a basis for artistic inventions. Personally, I don't see it as a tool for art, but it's definitely a platform to be creative with.
Another advantage, which is also a disadvantage, is the greater variety of random factors with which the images are generated. It sometimes feels like rolling a dice or a casual game rather than a controllable tool. This certainly appeals to users who love to experiment and don't want to have full control over their content but also want to give creative randomness a chance. Of course, I see a disadvantage in the method that certain parts of the application are only available to paying users, but to let your creativity run wild, you can also use the tool without investing any money.
What I'm really pleased about is the further development of the service. It's not always what I would expect, but so far it's always been a surprise to me.
I'm definitely excited to see what happens next and hope that the platform will continue to be developed further. It thrives on the content, stories, emotions, artistic backgrounds and perspectives of the users and on the developers having creative freedom to further unfold the platform and adapt it to the Dreamers needs.
