“I remember when we laughed until we fell,” said the child within her. “When the river knew our secrets and the stars called us by name.” The older self smiled, her hand resting lightly on the bark of her favorite ancient tree, the one that had always bent a little closer when she needed it most. “Don’t let me fade,” the inner voice whispered. “Remind me I mattered. That I still do.”
So the grown one knelt beside a flower they once named “Tickletuft,” her fingers brushing its petals. “You do matter,” she replied aloud. “You are the root of everything I became. The fire in my soul, the breeze that lifts my courage.” The child’s joy rippled through her - pure and unfiltered - and suddenly, she wasn’t alone in her body, not entirely. They were two, walking together again.
Every hill they had climbed, every song they had sung, every friend they’d loved - it all returned, like echoes lighting up the long path behind her. “When I was scared,” the child’s voice said, “you kept going for me.” The elf’s eyes filled with tears. “And now, when I grow weary,” she replied, “it’s your spark that pulls me back.”
