I think it would be helpful if dreamers could choose how they want to share their prompts for each image before publishing.
Creating a prompt can take time, effort, and energy, and I understand that dreamers will always have different preferences about how their prompts are shared. At the same time, shared prompts are an important part of DDG for experimenting and learning.
Since we will not always have the same opinions, perhaps DDG could provide these choices before publishing a dream:
(a) Show the prompt and allow copying
(b) Show the prompt but limit direct copying, while still allowing Try
(c) Keep the prompt completely hidden, without a Try button
Personally, option B is what I would prefer, because it would keep Try available while giving the originator some protection from direct copying. Using Try also gives the originator an inspiration point, which I think is a nice way to support them.
But I completely respect that others may prefer A or C. We all have different perspectives, and I don't think there needs to be one solution that everyone agrees with. Having choices could simply allow different preferences to coexist.
Of course, this is only a suggestion if it is technically feasible. I’m already enjoying DDG and will continue to enjoy creating here either way.
If you have other ideas or approaches, please feel free to suggest them on the board. There may be an even better way that works well for everyone.

Continues #106, as you said there: choices for how your prompt is shared. Your votes and comments are there now.
Xymo... so, take out the "image to text " feature under "Tools"?
Well, firstly, the image itself needs to be not downloadable. Obviously there are ways around that. It has always been the rule that images of any kind are off-limit to copying on DDG. But to just prevent the copying and pasting of the static prompts and even the descriptions, since these can also be used as prompts, would put a little hurdle in the way of those who have no respect for other people. Many of us pay points to have AI prompts made a lot of the time. I just think people who pay are being a bit disrespected when this is allowed. I don't understand the technical side of things, so I don't know if it's possible. I want to keep the image to text feature. I use it a lot, with my old images and photos, and even public domain images at times. Why do you think that feature would have to go as well?
Better to ask for a "Private Prompt" for those not wanting to share. But, honestly, if that's really a concern upscale and post that. No prompt on upscaled images.
I hadn't thought of that, but then you are paying even more. If it was a feature of DDG there would be no cost. And I'm not saying get rid if the Try button. Just wanting people to use it instead of avoiding it.
Agree 🙏❤
Agree 🙏🙏
I don't agree. I learn a lot by reading prompts of pictures I like. I rarely use NightCafe for that very reason. Another reason I don't like the idea, is that DeepDream makes it very easy for some users to upload a pretty picture, use one of the models on it, and claim it as their own image. I look at people's prompts if I'm not familiar with the artist, and I rarely give a like to more than one picture if I don't see a prompt or modifications. Slapping a cute title on something you uploaded from somewhere should not be rewarded with the same number of likes someone developed from their own heads and probably spent some points doing so.
Good idea!
Thank you, Just to clarify, my idea wasn’t to completely hide the prompt or disable the “Try” button.
I was thinking of having the prompt hidden initially, but still allowing the viewer to use “Try.” Once they generate their own image, the original prompt could then be revealed to them.
That way, the creator’s prompt isn’t immediately available for copying, but people can still use “Try,” generate their own image, and then see the prompt afterward. This could hopefully preserve the inspiration points while giving creators a little more protection against simply copying the prompt.
But I think having more options for how prompts are shared would be beneficial:
That way, creators can choose the level of prompt sharing that works best for them. 😊
@∎Lexi∎ Do many people actually "try" without modifying? Your suggestion would be quite inconvenient for people who want to use your prompt as a base, and no desire to use it verbatim
@Gronk I can see your point that some people may want to see the prompt first so they can use it as a starting point and make their own changes. Honestly, my main reason for suggesting it is simply to discourage people from directly copy-and-pasting prompts without using the “Try” button.
That’s why I think having different prompt-sharing options could be worth considering, rather than having one approach for everyone. If there’s a better way to discourage direct copying while still making it convenient for people who want to use a prompt and the “Try” button as a starting point, I’d definitely be open to hearing other ideas.
@Gronk “Try” counts even if you completely replace the prompt with your own; the main thing is that the “Generate Image” page opens via the “Try” button's hyperlink. There’s another pitfall here: you can copy the prompt, reload the generation page, and then paste the copied prompt. “Try” won’t count, and it’s easy to exploit this.
I support this idea; some artists intentionally protect their prompts and original images using Upscaler.
It would also be great if it were possible to hide the startup image separately.
Then why are any of us here?
I just noticed there is already a newer feedback post discussing this topic, so I shared my thoughts there instead. For anyone interested in this topic, I’ll leave this suggestion here rather than having two similar discussions going at the same time. here’s the newer post: Option to hide prompt #106. https://deepdreamgenerator.com/feedback/106
I recommend this platform to people precisely because you can view prompts here )) Anyone who really needs to “hide a prompt” knows how to do it on this platform. But it’s very inconvenient, so only those who really need to use it actually do. I’m glad you can learn from other people’s prompts )) That’s what really keeps me on this platform.
I think that users should always have an option to either make their prompts visible or not. The down side of that is that quality of images may go drastically down since the names of artist provide the tone and style of our images. It is impossible to know all these artists, but it doesn't hurt to do some private search on the web and experiment. If you use a better generator model, you final image will be more satisfying. I should apply this advice to myself but like some other members, I'm almost incurable when it comes to my curiosity to what will the next image look. Meaning, I'm spending my points like there's no tomorrow.
∎Lexi∎ Why would anyone maliciously avoid the try button? I'm relatively new here, am I missing something? Because as far as I understand It has zero cost. (sorry for late reply)
@Chiptrees What are "they" exploiting by avoiding the try button?
I agree with the option to hide the prompt. It’s not that I dislike sharing; it’s a matter of honesty and respect for the creators' imagination. Personally, I don't care about receiving a credit every time a member tries one of my prompts. However, I’ve found my creations on other image-generation sites—like NightCafé, where I’m also a member; a DDG member copied my prompt word-for-word and placed in the top 5% of a challenge, while I remained in the shadows. Then there’s Facebook, where one member claimed my "Siamese Cat" image as their own, and another used a different creation of mine as both their profile picture and cover photo. They’ve even appeared on online sales sites (starting at $129, depending on the format). That is why I sign my creations and have significantly cut back on sharing my prompts! I do understand that beginners need keywords to bring the images in their minds to life. But I am opposed to people copying a prompt in its entirety and claiming authorship, when that is completely false!
Yes please!!! Please!!! Please!!!
@Lionie I'm sorry you don't get the recognition you obviously deserve... maybe take it as a complement? :) Hiding prompts won't stop people from "stealing" you dreams
I don't think that with the appearance of this feature, everyone will suddenly start blocking their prompts. I don't even know if I'll need it myself. However, there are ideas that are dear to us, and we don't want them to be stolen. It’s harder to recreate a work without a prompt, and simply copying a ready image can easily be disputed.
@Lionie I understand you. I think what really needs to be done is to block the “Try” button for unregistered users. It is not right to turn platforms like this into a hub for free, great ideas for someone business.
@Gronk Sorry for the late reply! I’ve created a new feedback post to explain my opinion clearly. I hope that helps clarify what I meant. https://deepdreamgenerator.com/feedback/139
@Chiptrees just checked, on nightcafe 7 out of month top 10 have hidden prompt
Yes, I the beginning as prompting images were a new thing it was helpful for any of us to see how prompting works. Especially with the old models. But prompting has become almost normal these days and the actual models usually produce a good looking image even with a simple prompt.
@seabird I agree, prompting has definitely become much more familiar, and the models have improved so much that even simple prompts can produce great results. For me, it’s less about keeping prompts secret and more about giving creators a choice in how they share them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Are there examples of indiscriminate copy-pasting? I didn't realize it is happening. Why would anyone avoid the try button?
There are legitimate concerns around this one, and the number of downvotes reflects that. We’re still thinking it through, though, and there may be a reasonable middle ground we can find.
Try button ok, copy paste without a like, not nice, it happens.
It would be easy to just remove the "Read Prompt" option. It still wouldn't make copying impossible, but it will make it more likely. @Gronk: Yes, people do it. They hope noone will notice that they copied the prompt and want to show off I guess.
Uhm, recently, I clicked on the try-button (the point was awarded) but it did not lead me to the normal "gereate"-site. I don't know why. When I nevertheless tried to generate a picture, it asked me to choose a pattern that was private. It was weird and the picture awful. I was glad, I could copy-paste the prompt and use it. And yes, of course, I linked the original picture and an explanation under mine.
Okay, DDG - who is voting against this? The people who only ever use other people's prompts. Yestersay I posted an image and within one hour someone had used the Try button with no modifications and had a similar image posted. Within one hour, and with flattering comments on it for that person. Later in the day another person hit the Try button, and the only change they made was to add a copyright symbol and their own name to the modifiers. I still have to comment on that. But those are two glaring issues. Other images with identical tries "competing" with your own all day, and then the people who help themselves and have the temerity to claim their resulting image - from 100% your prompt - as their own copyrighted work. Frankly, your system re tries is not enough. Make the person using the try pay points to the original poster. And a significant number of points, like a minimum of 50 (although 100 is more fair if you have paid for an AI prompt and used ChatGPT2, and several tries to refine the image yourself. And second and third generation tryers pay the original person, not the people who have used the try. User pays. Because as you can see, so many people come here only for the free use of prompts other people have written or paid for. Night Cafe has the option and hasn't gone out of business yet. I'll start another post on this topic as well.
Second post today - Change your reward system. Go back to likes, but count only one like from each person. Or something else. You have set the site up so that the only way to succeed is by giving away your prompts, and with a tiny reward. That may be great for you, but it's not fair for those who want the option of not sharing prompts. My next thought is that I would like to be able to turn the prompts on and off in the same way we can make access public or private. And when the prompt is turned off in the original gallery, it is off in the galleries of those who have used it. When acknowledging tries, just count them as a statistic, and definitely do not make them the way people are ranked. We all know that is manipulated, and you have also given permission for that kind of manipulation by telling people to invite friends and family to join and become your supporters re tries and likes. Perhaps a system of like levels could be established like in the challenges. Or each person gets a limited number of "super" likes per day, and those who receive the most get a reward. There are ways to make a different system work. Right now, members have no say in the matter. I like DDG and would prefer to stay, but after yesterday with the two examples I mentioned, it underlined what is so frustrating about the site. Now we can generate a prompt, I think there is no excusefor people to demand free access to prompts they didn't make.
Gronk, a lot of people want to get praise for any reason, if if that reason is using someone else's prompt. There are dozens of instances of this happening that I know of. They even use the image description, which works as well as the prompt in many cases.
It's true and the description is very long, i delete the middle to the end of the description...it's seem to me than the description was It was shorter before, and it's far too detailed as well. But that's another topic.
I don't see how the option to hide your prompt should affect how you trend. Shouldn't your work be judged by its quality? Whether someone hides their prompt or not should have no bearing on the integrity of the image. This seems to be a recurring theme on DDG - the quality, originality and craftsmanship of the image seem to count the least. I often don't publish my prompts anymore bc I see my images all over the internet, or here on DDG, and with the exception of one person, they never give me credit and claim it as their own. They get fawning comments and lots of likes without admitting it's not their own work. Maybe I'm naive, but shouldn't it be a meritocracy? The work is all that counts. Not liking an image bc there is no prompt sounds a bit suspicious to me. Why should that matter if the image is good? Also, I use my images on Instagram and with for my graphic design work -- I can't have duplicates all over the internet. Some people create work here for their business or for side projects. It's only logical that they don't want to share their prompts. I don't know why people seem to get offended by that. There's so many places to learn about art and to get ideas for prompts. That shouldn't be a make or break deal. It's odd to me that some people are so against it. When you go to a museum or gallery, there isn't an exact break down of the artist's creative process but you still appreciate their work. Why should it be different on an AI platform?
@Zettel @Xymo Nau I suppose now there is technically a reason to avoid the try button for a ne'er-do-well, since the original is automatically credited. Thanks, admins haha
Sinomine - I also sell images. Not a lot, but I do, and if I sell the rights to the image, I have to remove it from where it's posted. In the past, when people approached me on fee image sites, I would put in the sales agreement that the image had been displayed and shared previously but from that point I was removing it from my displays. However, like you, I have seen my images - not just AI ones - offered for sale all over the place. It's hard work trying to get them taken down, and impossible from wallpaper sites.
First off, I wouldn't mind having an option to hide the prompt via a checkbox. Everyone should decide for themselves whether to make them public or not—and bear the consequences of that choice.
Personally, I'll keep my prompts public because I enjoy sharing them with the community and passing on my knowledge and experience. That is just my personal stance, however, and certainly not a standard for anyone or anything else. I would find it a shame if hiding prompts became the norm—although not because I’m some lousy thief lacking ideas of my own; I won't accept that accusation, that was and that is not my personal intention, especially since I actually communicate with creators and make modifications etc. I create "Try-its" out of appreciation for others—valuing their "Dreams" enough to dedicate my own limited energy to them—and I've always given credit where it’s due, linking to the creator, their profile, and the original Dream. This allows everyone to decide for themselves whether they are here solely for personal fame, recognition, or money, or if they genuinely want to interact and exchange ideas with the community of "Dreamers." I mean this neutrally; I can't phrase it any better than I'm not a native speaker.
Any "like" system would need to be designed very precisely and fairly; otherwise, users with large followings and fanbases would have a huge advantage. I'm not sure how exactly, but ultimately, it needs to be fair for everyone.
Perhaps it would also be good to have a note on one's profile stating and on the Dreampage that one insists on copyright and does not want prompts to be used; this would prevent misunderstandings, let others know immediately how the user manages their gallery, and ensure that preference is respected. When I see that, I respect it and don't do anything like that. That's my 2 Cents.
I am absolutely 100% of the opinion that abuse, disrespect, and criminal acts (such as selling others' dreams on Amazon) are unacceptable; they must be stopped and entail serious consequences.
I was directed to this thread so I'll throw my hat into the ring.
DDG this is a simple fix, have a checkbox for the members to hide or show the prompt before they make it public. Very easy problem that leaves everyone with the option. Now if hide the prompt, the certainly can't get inspiration points.
Now If I like your image, your prompt, I will use the "Try" button Period! What I don't do is just copy someone's prompt and make no changes the prompt and post as if I created it. That's is a garbage ass person, and anyone who does so after being warned by DDG (((not some random member with an attitude))) should have their account taken away.
If I like your image and it gives me inspiration for an image in my head then "try" button it is. You the original poster get inspiration point(s).
But here is the problem I have come across, sometimes the person who's prompt you "Try" gets pissy, nasty and angry and starts calling you a thief. Even when they're getting "Inspiration" points for it, they attempt to shame you for using a button the platform gives everyone. They want you to kiss their feet or whatever praise they are looking.
Now I'm not new to DDG, I have been a paid member YEARS AGO, but I don't live here and I do respect the platform and members. But some of you really need to grow up and understand a rule that was not made by anyone here: IF YOU PUT IT ON THE INTERNET IT'S GOING TO GET USED AND ABUSED WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT! You can be angry, sad, indifferent or oblivious to it, but that is the honest truth. No one here made it that way. We all should know by now nothing on the public internet is safe. Nothing!
Screenshots are a real thing and can't be stopped by DDG or any other platform. All Ai models can describe YOUR image and then provide a prompt that is as good or even better than yours. I say this not to be a smart ass, but it's sad to see people trying to mount a keyboard fight against something they can't defeat. Wose getting angry and nasty.
What exactly is the issue? If someone wants to hide their prompt, what can be against it? I spend hours on an image. Researching. Experimenting. I don’t want others to go with my prompt. Everyone can make his or her own prompt. I don’t know the objections. Because people don’t motivate their objection. That makes me think that they want to make the same but don’t know how? No idea, but once again I see this happen: a lot of users want to keep the prompt they made up for their own. And DDG directly supports the complainers. But why exactly, that is still unclear. There seem to be enough people that do want to share prompts. So let them do that, and support as well us, dreamers that want to keep their masterprompts for themselves. I always hide them. Till now nobody even asked how I did make them. So far the interest by other users.
So, are we there yet? Option to hide prompt #106?
Since a generator can produce different results from the same words, reusing a prompt also isn’t necessarily copying the exact image, but it can still copy someone’s creative direction.
So I’d put it this way: the prompter deserves credit for their contribution, but shouldn’t automatically claim sole authorship of all the image’s expressive details. Sharing a prompt is a choice; people who don’t want it reused can keep it private or state that preference, while platforms should make public/private settings and reuse rules clear.
...., and that is what we have here..., it seams that some people want to eat the cake and keep it. Good luck with that. If you dislike sharing/reusing/altering your prompt for perfectly reasonable reasons, than keep them private and no one will be wiser. True? AI generated images are a partnership between two parties where output doesn't happen if one party is omitted. Prompt may be a product of an author’s '“intellectual conceptions” and design' (Why the Obsession with Human Creativity? A Comparative Analysis on Copyright Registration of AI-Generated Works), but technology is still in unpredictable stage of development. The very reason why the same prompt generates variety of interpretations and why "try" feature isn't illegal. People can register their prompts under exclusive "authorship" rights at the governmental agencies. Mind you, this isn't free and it doesn't automatically give one Copyright to images using such text. Everything has to go thru legal corridors to make it legal. Get it?
