Backstory : Like all four characters in this series so far, The Cousin belongs to a Grigorii* sub-group which calls itself The Bright, hence the series name. The Cousin and The Daughter have been best friends from earliest childhood - and the only one who either one can talk to about being Grigori. When The Daughter refuses to join the Strigoi coven that her family's matriarchs have controlled for centuries, The Cousin stands up for her, though The Cousin is herself a member of the coven.
