ArtistA desk upon which is an open box of 5+1/4 inch floppy disks, an Apple ][, and some user manuals.
In the previous picture, I blogged about having put my 1981-bought Apple ][ Europlus in a new case, along with one of its 5+1/4 inch floppy drives and the Mountain Computer Music System. Since then, I've been scanning all my floppies (both DOS 3.3 and ProDOS ones) with my old Applesoft "Readability Map" program, which displays a grid of dots (for good sectors) and stars (for bad sectors) in order to make as much content recoverable as possible. After I get too many stars, I clean the disk heads with isopropanol on a cleaning disk, and this definitely improves the readability of the old floppy data. So far almost all the floppies show as totally readable, except for about five ProDOS ones and a couple of DOS 3.3 ones.
A forthcoming project will be to add a 1GB IDE HDDand a 720K 3.5 inch floppy drive to Lissi, using some 8T31 bus transceivers on an old coprocessor card, and a modified Disk ][ controller card.
Meanwhile I've been playing some old DOS 3.3 games, such as Little Brick Out, Brian's Theme, and Animals. Lol :)
Oh, by the way, I just remembered why my Apple ][ is called Lissi ... When my father first bought his UK101 computer kit in the late 1970's I often used to accidentally type "LISY" instead of "LIST" when programming in Basic :)
