Our ginger-haired young art student has just arrived in an old European city, carrying the quiet excitement and slight uncertainty of someone beginning a completely new chapter. She walks along a narrow cobblestone street in the soft early-morning light, carrying a large portfolio case under one arm and a worn canvas shoulder bag. Beside her walks her familiar short-haired red dachshund, slightly darker copper-red than her hair, clearly the same little companion who has travelled with her from the coast. The city feels old and lived-in: weathered pastel facades, tall windows with small balconies, flower boxes, bicycles leaning against ancient walls, a tiny bakery opening its shutters and warm light spilling onto the pavement. A tram glides quietly through the distant street. She slows near the window of a small old bookshop. Behind the glass are art books, old prints, postcards and dusty objects from another time. She looks inside with quiet curiosity while the dachshund sits beside her, patiently watching the unfamiliar city. The small sprig of lavender is tucked almost imperceptibly into the strap of her canvas bag, partly hidden beneath the portfolio — not decorative, but a tiny personal talisman carried from the life she left behind. Impasto physically builds the rough cobblestones, aged plaster, worn leather of the portfolio, canvas fibres and the dachshund's short copper coat with thick tactile paint. Palette Knife constructs the architecture through broad structural strokes — crooked facades, balconies, windows, street corners and the long perspective of the cobbled lane. Glazing layers the pale golden morning light through the cool shadows of the narrow street, giving the city depth and a gentle feeling of discovery. Color Ink is reserved for intimate focal details: the lavender buds, her ginger curls, the dog's dark eyes, handwritten bookshop lettering, tiny flowers in balcony boxes and reflected morning light in the glass. Painterly, tactile and poetic, never photographic or CGI. A feeling of arrival, curiosity and quiet courage — a young woman carrying her old world with her while stepping into a completely new one.
