Inside the small pastry shop, everything feels warmer and quieter than the street outside. Our recognizable ginger-haired young art student sits at a tiny wooden table beside the window, her sketchbook open in front of her. A small plate holds a beautifully imperfect slice of pistachio and raspberry cake, with a little fork resting beside it. Her short-haired red dachshund, slightly darker than her ginger hair, sits beneath the table, patiently watching her. She has just taken the first bite. Her eyes close for a brief second. A tiny, satisfied smile. Outside the window, the city continues moving — bicycles crossing the wet street, people passing beneath old façades, sunlight reflecting from puddles.
