"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." - Hebrews 12:1-2
As we read these words from Hebrews 12:1-2, we are reminded that we are not alone in this race of life. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and lived out their faith. They are cheering us on as we run the race marked out for us.
But in order to run this race with perseverance, we must throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us. We must let go of the things that weigh us down and keep us from pursuing God's plan for our lives. This requires discipline and commitment, but it is essential if we want to run the race well.
As we run, we must fix our eyes on Jesus, who is the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. He is the ultimate example of endurance and perseverance. He endured the cross for the joy set before him, and he now sits at the right hand of the throne of God. When we fix our eyes on him, we are reminded of the joy that awaits us when we finish the race.
So let us run this race with perseverance, knowing that we are not alone. Let us throw off everything that hinders us and fix our eyes on Jesus. May we be encouraged by the witness of those who have gone before us, and may we press on towards the finish line with faith and determination.
