This one was really hard work. I wanted to design an alien landscape where the rooted plantlife was blended with marine bioforms- in other words, a landscape with tentacle-plants. I also wanted the waters to be a different colour to those on Earth. I actually modelled the visual concept on a world in a novel I wrote awhile ago... but acheiving it was a little trickier than I expected. The first thing I had to do was take a suitably alien-looking base landscape from the ones I've been generating lately using the AI. I then added the tentacles in a digital collage and colour-shifted the blue waters to pink to create the alien tint. So far, so straightforward. This collage then became the base image for a final run with the AI... and this is where things got hard. As it turns out, the AI is really reluctant to integrate tentacles into a landscape- I don't think it likes Lovecraftian visual tropes. It took multiple attempts to find the right combination of words and AI model to get the text to image generator to play ball and actually come up with what I asked for, despite having the base image to work from. I got there in the end, though, and I really like the finished piece.
