More about Set Apart and Cleansed for a Purpose

2 Timothy 2:20-21 says, "In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work."

As Christians, we are called to live a life that is set apart from the world around us. We are called to be holy, to purify ourselves from anything that would hinder our relationship with God. This means staying away from worldly things and seeking to serve God with purity.

The passage from 2 Timothy reminds us that in a large house, there are articles of gold and silver, which are used for special purposes, and articles of wood and clay, which are used for common use. In the same way, God has created us for special purposes, to be used by Him in ways that bring glory to His name.

However, if we want to be used by God for these special purposes, we must first cleanse ourselves from the things of this world. We must rid ourselves of anything that would hinder our relationship with God, such as sin, pride, selfishness, and worldly desires.

When we purify ourselves in this way, we become instruments for special purposes, made holy and useful to God. We become vessels that God can use to do His work in the world. And when we are prepared in this way, we can do any good work that God has called us to do.

So let us commit ourselves to living a life that is set apart from the world, seeking to serve God with purity and integrity. Let us cleanse ourselves from the things of this world that would hinder our relationship with God, and let us be vessels for special purposes, ready and willing to do the good works that God has prepared for us. May we bring glory to God in all that we do, and may our lives be a testament to His love and grace.
