When I was a kid living in The Holler, I would climb up a little hill like this one to get to the system of fire breaks criss-crossing the forested mountainside. I sought nothing less than communion with the cosmos and knowledge of the Soul Imperishable. Natural beauty filled me with an ecstacy that many people remember from childhood but few people can still bring to bear as adults.
The funny thing is, though, that this image does inspire a twinge of that selfsame joy.
