Among the notes of the Archmage, Flint Beastwood found the one on Notos to be most intriguing. The Archmage wrote that Notos was 'too good for his own good'. The Archmage also wrote that he thought Notos was too powerful to trust with any but the most rudimentary of education. The Archmage felt certain that if Notos was allowed to develop his full potential, he would not only seek to depose the Archmage but to destroy the school and all who served it. This prompted Flint Beastwood to test Notos. He quickly found that the Archmage had been correct in his assessment. So Flint Beastwood decides to officially offer Notos an apprenticeship. Notos is very grateful for this opportunity, since he had been worried about his future. Now he can go study at any of the official schools of magic and once he has chosen his specialization, he can add a gem to his staff.
For Notos this is the opportunity of a lifetime. He can leave his past behind and build a new life for himself. In addition, going to the different schools of magic and meeting the students there will allow him to assess if any of them happen to be former students of the School of Death.
