More about medusa: bittersweet betrayal

in my vision and interpretation of the myths as far as I got to learn them, one thing always stuck into me, a sense of injustice, the tell of a story of a villain, where said villain is not the villain at all?
Medusa was a beautiful maiden, a Priestess of Athena, who found herself being violated by Poseidon, the god of the sea and waters, inside Athena's temple, but who gets to be the villain of the story? It wasn't Poseidon, the god of seas, of course, it was the beautiful Medusa, by committing such a sacrilege inside Athena's temple, leaving an infuriated Athena, the goddess of wisdom, to curse Medusa for the rest of her existence: Her hair locks would turn into fearful snakes, and she wouldn't resemble anymore as who she used to be, a beautiful woman, turning her into something horrendous to the eyes, the looks of what we would call a 'monster' and whoever ever glanced at Medusa's eyes would be forever turned into stone. After the curse, Medusa retreats to Sarpedon, an island, where she lived with her two Gorgon sisters in a cave, they were feared and viewed as horrible monsters with terrible powers.
Later on, Perseus is given a mission to kill Medusa, and guess how he managed to success? Athena, of course. Athena gifted Perseus with a magical bronze shield. With this shield Perseus managed to get inside Medusa's cave, and kill her without risking to look at her direct image, and looking at the reflections in the bronze shield, he cut her head of, taking it with him, since her face still had the powers even after being dead, then from there on, her decapitated dead head would be used again and again as a magical tool, to turn enemies to stone, thus, her body kept being used, even after her ultimate demise, as a tool for others.

if there isn't betrayal in this whole thing, then I don't know what betrayal means.
