As Brenda approaced the bridge and started to cross, the wooden boards suddenly gave way, and she felt herself falling unexpectedly into the river. She screamed as she went under, all her shopping floating around her, and thrashed about wildly trying to re-orient herself. "Oh damn," said Brenda, "they only mended this bridge the other week, and now it's broken again". She gathered her ruined shopping, and swam towards shore in her soaking-wet bedraggled outfit, only to trip and slide down the river embankment and fall in again.
