Based on the first day my wife and I spent in Venice over Christmas. We had just gotten married and after a night of heavy sleep we awoke to a city shrouded in fog. As we walked it smelled like the sea and the only sounds were our footsteps echoing through each courtyard we passed through. At times it felt like we had the city to ourselves, like being cast adrift on an ocean liner made of stone.
