ArtistModern dark seinen anime illustration, gothic, razor-sharp ink linework, intricate hair and fur strands, sharp black cel shading. Palette of silver-white, ash grey, charcoal and near-black outside, contrasted with warm golden light, champagne and pale rose tones inside the house, restrained cyan accents. Bittersweet, tender, dreamlike mood of homecoming. The front door of a modest house at dusk, seen from outside, viewpoint slightly behind and to the right of the man. The wooden door opens outward to the left, swung wide open on the left of the doorway, inner face toward the viewer, concealed hinges, warm light pouring onto the grey stone threshold. On the wall at the right of the door frame, a small brushed metal nameplate engraved "Casa Milo" in elegant handwritten script, crisp and legible. The man: in his late forties, strong, tired build, three-quarter back view on the threshold, face turned slightly right toward her, showing his profile. His left arm extends left, the flat open palm of his left hand pressed against the inner panel of the door, holding it wide open. Hair buzzed almost to the scalp, light two-day stubble on jaw, chin and upper lip. A large, long, pale raised scar runs along his whole right forearm, wrist to elbow; small old scars on his shins, knees and thighs. Construction worker outfit: short denim shorts, plain green dusty t-shirt, an empty worn leather tool belt pouch on his hips. Barefoot on the stone, dusty work boots beside the door. His right hand holds a white safety helmet by the brim at his side. Posture of surprise and emotion, shoulders slightly lifted. Inside, a few steps beyond the doorway and slightly to the right of him, a dreamlike, ethereal young adult Mediterranean woman faces the viewer, arms spread wide open, clearly offering a hug. Her face is full of radiant joy: bright eyes, wide warm smile, cheeks flushed pale rose. Soft olive-toned pale complexion with a gentle silvery glow. Short layered pixie cut, very wavy and tousled, pure white with silver-grey shadows and golden highlights. Plump, rounded, fluffy white cat ears, inner ear pale rose, perked up with excitement. A very large, extremely thick, bushy white cat tail, voluminous as a fox tail, dense wavy fur, raised high and curled at the tip in happiness. Elegant summer evening gown of flowing champagne and pale rose silk with delicate thin straps, light skirt swirling in soft folds as if she had just run to the door. On the floor near her feet, a small ceramic cat bowl full of dry kibble, decorated with a stylized cat paw print. On the interior wall behind her, a slim digital wall clock showing in glowing cyan digits "307º 2026 CE", crisp and legible. Cozy interior in soft focus: coat hook, small wooden shelf, warm lamplight. Clean, still air. Anatomically correct hands, arms, legs and feet. Lighting: cool grey dusk outside with deep black shadow masses on his back and the door, warm golden light inside framing her like a halo, subtle cyan rim light on his silhouette. Mood: longing fulfilled, love, the joy of being welcomed home, tinged with quiet melancholy.
And There You Were (autobiographical dream)
Every day, for years, it was the same. I would come home from the construction site, tired, dusty, carrying the weight of the day in my arms and legs. I would open the door, and there you were.
Pulce. The little stray I found on my way back from a village festival, starving and covered in parasites, who became family. You were deaf, so you never knew how loud your meow was; you greeted me with it anyway, wild and off-key, every single time. It was the first thing I saw and the first thing I heard. It was what made a house feel like home.
Someone with a cruel heart took you from me. Since then, the door opens onto silence.
But in my dreams it still opens onto you: standing in the warm light, arms wide, waiting, as if no time had passed. Your bowl is still full. The clock on the wall marks the day I painted this, because for you, in here, it is always today.
As long as I remember you, I will keep coming home. And there you will be.
