No matter
how they gild
the cage, a cage
is still a cage—
And though a bird
sings exquisitely
upon this golden stage—
with many a sigh
and generous applause,
admiration and sparkling
eyes, from lookers on
the sweetest song
that she will sing,
the sweetest of refrains
is when she sits
upon a branch, freely,
in the land
after a summer's rain.
In response, and inspired by a poem within the book, THE GIFT, Poems by HAFIZ, The Great Sufi Master, Translations by Daniel Ladinsky.
(poem my own) Now, Thanks to Riffusion, there is a song as well—if you wish to give a listen, follow the link below : )
