ArtistLet's fly I don't recommend trying it. The results are not consistent.
We sat on top of the world with borrowed wings on our backs,
Striped like two inmates who slipped through the celestial cracks.
You said, “Come on, baby, let’s rise above this spinning stone.”
I said, “I’ve seen too many angels fall and break every bone.”
The compass kept turning, but it never pointed true.
The clock in the sky was busted, just like me and you.
Feathers drifted downward like letters never sent,
Every kiss a promise, every promise heaven-bent.
Let’s fly, baby, though the weather don’t agree.
Let’s fly, though gravity keeps collecting from me.
I don’t recommend trying it, but I can’t say no.
Some hearts are built for falling, some just need to know.
Smoke curled around the planet like a slow and mournful tune.
The stars were out of rhythm, and midnight came too soon.
Still you leaned against me, and the whole world seemed to sing:
Love is not the landing—love is trusting broken wings.
