"Here it is, the forester's hut," Arthur said as they approached the forest edge.
"Do you really know that this is the right hut?" asked Teddy Bear.
"I gess so. Once we were here with my dad, picking berries, and we passed by it. But for some reason we didn't see anyone here then either."
"Did you really go to this forest to pick berries? Your mom always says that this forest is scary and dangerous for little kids!"
"Well... We didn't go far into the forest, just here, at the edge. And anyway, Teddy Bear, it seems to me that children are only frightened by adults. So that we don't go for a walk far from home."
Arthur slowed down to listen.
"But it's suspiciously quiet here..." he said uncertainly.
"Of course it is. So quiet that you can hear your tummy rumbling," remarked Teddy Bear.
"It's probably from those sour apples. My mom always tells me that it's too early to pick them because they're not ripe yet. But sometimes you want to eat something when you climb and sit on a high branch of our old apple tree."
Arthur came closer and stopped in front of an old, shabby wooden house. Some of the windows had broken panes, but the doors were locked. So they could not get inside.
"Well, where is that Barefoot? Where is that naughty cat that brought us here?" asked Teddy Bear irritably.
"Let's call him," Arthur said. "BAREFOOT! BAREFOOT! Kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty!"
They froze, waiting for someone to respond.
"Meow!" came from somewhere behind the house.
"Barefoot! Is that you!?" Arthur shouted loudly. And at that moment, something dark and furry snuck into the thicket of trees behind the house.
"Barefoot, where are you going!?" Arthur shouted, rushing after it.
"Arthur, but maybe it's not our cat?! Are you really going to run after him alone in this forest?!" asked Teddy Bear excitedly, while Arthur ran and tried not to lose sight of this strange cat.
"Well, I'm not alone. I have you, Teddy Bear. Don't worry, we'll go for just a little while, we'll take a glimpse to see if it's really Barefoot, and that's it..."
