ArtistA picture of a passenger ship on fire hitting a huge rock. At the top of the picture is the caption "Diversity Saturday February 7". Underneath that caption in RED are the words "Industrial Slaughter".
The facts in this description are from a true PBS TV documentary, however in order to avoid possible slander all names are suppressed.
On or around the year 1912, a "prestigious" passenger ship was launched by a well-known company. Despite the fact that there was a FIRE in the engine room, the company chose to allow the passengers to board the ship, presumably because the company was worried about its "reputation" if it cancelled the sailing. The engine room fire continued as the ship sailed to its destination, and CAUSED A WEAKENING OF THE SHIP'S STARBOARD HULL. The crew chose not to steer away from a large iceberg, and the WEAKENED HULL WAS HIT BY THE ICEBERG, RESULTING IN THE SINKING OF THE SHIP AND THE LOSS OF MANY LIVES. The ship was launched with deliberately insufficient lifeboats, as its owners obviously hadn't allowed for the possibility of an ENGINE ROOM FIRE, and erroneously assumed that the ship was invincible. Regrettably the legends of this sad ship have passed into popular culture (even a well-known film or musical) without understanding the true facts, hence this Diversity article.
Next month's Diversity Saturday : Diversity in Nature (including Humans), and the Generator of Diversity (G.O.D).
