Chapter 38 – The Person Who Was Left on the Wrong Side Part 1 – The Voice Behind the First Door REFERENCE IMAGES FIRST: CR-01a – Mara, CR-11 – Horologia, CR-15 – The Vanished Wizard. Preserve their established appearance. Do NOT include Avelor. Aven has no supplied reference image and appears only as a secondary character. Cinematic realistic painterly fantasy storybook illustration, horizontal 4:3, inside the ancient Cottage of the Vanished Wizard. Warm amber fireplace and candlelight contrast with cold silver-grey supernatural light. Mara is the clear main character in the foreground: 22 years old, gold-blond hair, blue eyes, freckles, forest-green tunic, dark trousers and brown boots. A faded green ribbon is tied around her wrist. Its loose end is visibly pulling toward an impossible black doorway forming in an old timber-and-stone wall. The doorway is a narrow rectangular opening outlined by a perfectly black line, with NO handle, NO hinges and NO keyhole. Beyond it is deep grey darkness with only a faint suggestion of wet stones in the distance. Absolutely NO person, face or silhouette is visible beyond the doorway. Aven stands slightly behind Mara, reaching toward her in warning. Keep Aven secondary. Horologia watches nearby with concern. Farther back stands the Vanished Wizard from CR-15, with long silver-grey hair, short white-grey beard, dark embroidered robe, brown boots, twisted wooden staff and small glowing bottles at his belt. He looks disturbed by a returning memory. On a nearby wall an old brass coat hook has mysteriously appeared. An EMPTY dark travelling coat hangs from it, clearly containing no body or invisible person. Beneath it stands a pair of worn travelling boots covered with fresh dark mud. Wet muddy droplets and marks around the soles clearly show that the mud is still fresh. Near the fireplace is an unusual old wooden chair, slightly separated from the other furniture. Dust covers its seat except for a cleaner shallow depression suggesting someone once sat there. On the floor beneath it are four small scratched tally marks, three crossed through and the fourth left open. The Cottage is warm, old and lived-in: crooked timber beams, stone fireplace, shelves of books, candles and wooden furniture. Subtle magical dust hangs in the air. The supernatural details should feel physically real and mysterious rather than spectacular. Natural composition with characters at different depths, never standing in a straight row. Mara dominates the scene. Main focus: Mara and the green ribbon, impossible black doorway, empty travelling coat and fresh muddy boots. Quiet supernatural tension, forgotten history returning, detailed realistic textures, cinematic depth, soft volumetric lighting. No Avelor, no extra people, no duplicate characters, no visible person beyond the doorway, no person inside the coat, no floating characters, no modern objects, no horror monster, no captions, labels or story text. Bottom-right: small white full-body unicorn silhouette with “AI by Unicorngraphics”.

Chapter 38 The Person Who Was Left on the Wrong Side Part 1 The Voice Behind the First Door
THE FIRST ROAD WAS CLOSED FROM THE WRONG SIDE. Nobody spoke. Memoris held the letter tightly. Tiktora’s reader still showed the black doorway where the zero had been. Mara stared at the wall from which the voice had come. “Mara, you promised to come back for me.” The words seemed to remain inside the wood after the voice stopped. Even the Cottage appeared to be listening. Sir Fegelot lowered his bristles. “I dislike promises made by people who cannot remember making them.” Madam Arabica’s lid clicked. “An unusually crowded category here.” Mara barely heard them. The green ribbon around her wrist tightened and pulled toward the far wall. Aven noticed. “Don’t.” Mara looked at them. “You know that voice.” “I know what it means.” “That was not what I asked.” Biblior stepped beside Mara. “Is there actually someone behind that wall?” A knock answered him. Once. Twice. Once again. Tiktora chimed. The black doorway widened. Horologia leaned closer. “The reader is no longer showing a moment. It is showing a place.” The wall creaked. A thin black line appeared from floor to ceiling. Mara stepped closer. Aven caught her wrist. “Do not touch it.” Mara pulled free. “Someone is speaking through my wall and saying I promised to return. If you know something, stop being mysterious.” Aven watched the line. “I remember a door.” “This one?” “No.” Cold air entered the room. It carried the smell of wet stone and something faintly metallic. Shelves shifted. A cupboard slammed. Somewhere upstairs, a clock began striking although nobody had wound it. It struck seven times and stopped. “Then what door?” Mara asked. “The first one.” The vanished wizard stepped forward. “There was no first door.” Aven turned toward him. “There was before you built the Cottage.” The wizard went still. “Built?” Memoris asked. “Not alone,” Aven said. “None of us did anything alone.” For a moment the black line narrowed, as though the wall were trying to close itself. Then the voice returned. “You said the road would open again when you remembered enough.” Mara’s breath caught. Something inside her recognised the sentence. Not the voice. The sentence. Her hand touched the second knot in the ribbon. Grey sky flashed through her mind, wet stones and a hand disappearing beyond a doorway. She heard herself shout something she could not understand. Then nothing. Biblior caught her shoulder. “What did you see?” “A hand.” “Whose?” “I don’t know.” Mara turned to Aven. “Did I say that? About remembering enough?” Aven hesitated. “Not to me.” The Cottage groaned. The black line bent at the top and bottom. A rectangle formed in the wall. A door without handle, hinges or keyhole. Its surface was darker than the surrounding wood, as though it had been cut from a shadow rather than built.Sir Fegelot moved between Mara and it. “Excellent. A door that cannot be opened.
