In Matthew 13:1-23, Jesus tells the parable of the sower, where a farmer scatters seeds on different types of soil. The seeds that fell on the rocky ground, among thorns, or on the path did not grow, but the seeds that fell on the good soil produced a bountiful harvest. This parable teaches us that the condition of our hearts can determine whether or not we receive the word of God.
Just like the good soil, we need to prepare our hearts to receive from Jesus. We must remove any obstacles that could hinder the growth of the seed, such as sin, doubt, or distractions. We must also cultivate our hearts and make them receptive to the word of God. This involves spending time in prayer, studying the Bible, and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Preparing our hearts to receive from Jesus is not a one-time event but a continual process. We must constantly guard our hearts and renew our minds in Christ. This requires a daily surrender to God and a willingness to let Him work in us.
When we prepare our hearts to receive from Jesus, we can experience His presence and power in our lives. We can grow in our relationship with Him and bear fruit that glorifies Him. But if we neglect our hearts and allow them to become hardened or cluttered, we risk missing out on the blessings that God has for us.
Let us be like the good soil, ready and receptive to receive the word of God. As we prepare our hearts to receive from Jesus, may we grow in our faith and bear fruit that lasts for eternity.
