The Adventures of Arthur & the Teddy Bear: Forest Guards #6

Arthur's fascination with the magical glade distracted him so much that he did not even notice that they were surrounded by several forest cats, crouching down and quietly watching. Arthur turned his gaze to one of the cats, who was staring at him intently. He was surprised by the animal's intense gaze. So, he found nothing better than to say hello to it.
"Hello, Mrs. Cat, or good evening? I'm confused what time of day it is now."
"What do you want?" the cat suddenly replied.
Arthur's eyes almost popped out on his forehead.
"Are you a cat that can talk?" Arthur asked very surprised.
"Of course, what's the big deal?" she answered. "And this is coming from a boy who talks to a teddy bear?" Mrs. Cat said, mockingly.
At this point, Arthur himself thought for a moment. He had never even considered how it was possible that he was talking to a Teddy Bear. After all, it had always been like that as long as Arthur could remember. So, the boy never imagined that this was an unusual situation. This cat could definitely not only talk, but she was also quite smart.
Arthur was filled with interest in the place where they had arrived. As well as the whole magical world, which by some incredible coincidence they were able to touch.
"Let me ask you, how did so many cats appear here?" Arthur continued the conversation.
"What do you mean, they appeared? We have always been here. This is our home. We are the guardians of this forest. We protect it from any evil that might disturb or harm it."
"You'd better tell us what brought you here. Not everyone can enter our forest. The entrance to it opens only to some lucky people. However, they must have good intentions and must not harm our forest or us. I hope you meet these criteria. Don't you?"
"Well, I... But we... we're actually looking for our cat, Barefoot. Have you seen him here by any chance?" Arthur was embarrassed. Although he didn't really expect to hear a positive answer, he asked anyway, just in case.
"There was no strange cat here. But, how did you say, 'Barefoot'? Who gives such names to cats?" the cat wondered.
"That's what I always tell him!" quickly picked up Teddy Bear. But he immediately fell silent and froze. He thought that it was probably not the best time to make fun of Arthur.
"It was our neighbor Mr. Bouguer who named him that," Arthur continued. "He's all black, but he has only a white spot on his face and white paw tips, as if he had taken off his socks. That's why we call him Barefoot."
"Of course I can't tell you this," the cat said. "But... no, there was no such cat here. Even if there was, I wouldn't tell you anything anyway. So, you have come here in vain."
