Hebrews 5:14 says, "But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil." This verse reminds us of the importance of spiritual growth and encourages us to value it in our lives.
The world around us places a high value on physical and material success, but as Christians, we know that true success comes from our relationship with God and our spiritual growth. The verse tells us that "solid food is for the mature," meaning that there is deeper, more profound understanding available to us as we grow in our faith.
The verse also reminds us that spiritual growth requires "constant use." We cannot expect to grow in our faith if we only give it attention on Sundays or when we are faced with difficult situations. We must make a conscious effort to integrate our faith into every aspect of our lives and practice it consistently.
As we mature in our faith, we gain the ability to "distinguish good from evil." We develop a deeper understanding of God's will for our lives and are better equipped to make wise choices and avoid harmful behaviors.
Valuing spiritual growth means recognizing that it is a lifelong journey, and that we will never reach a point where we have "arrived." We must continually seek to deepen our relationship with God and grow in our understanding of His ways.
In a world that values success and achievement, let us remember the words of Hebrews 5:14 and place a high value on our spiritual growth. May we make a conscious effort to practice our faith consistently and seek out opportunities to deepen our understanding of God's love and grace. And may we always strive to distinguish good from evil, making wise choices that honor God and bring Him glory.
