The legend of the Bokkenrijders tells of a gang of criminals who were active in the 18th century in the border regions of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. According to the stories, these robbers rode flying billy goats at night to commit their crimes. They were often depicted as devil worshippers with supernatural powers. Although the legend contains elements of fantasy, there were actually gangs that were persecuted and severely punished for their crimes during that time.
