Surreal, minimalist, high fashion illustration, mixed media art, glamour. A humorous scene during Paris Fashion Week. Create four funny, unusual and exotic insects: the Brazilian humpback (Bocydium globulare), the ‘Devil’s Flower’ praying mantis (Idolomantis diabolica), the Panda Ant (Euspinolia militaris), the Australian Stick Insect (Extatosoma tiaratum), dancing energetically to rock ’n’ roll and dressed in ‘steampunk’ style. The background is white, with grunge paper texture. Influenced by the artistic styles of Wendy Froud, Bridget Bate Tichenor, Ana Juan, Laura Laine and Tom Bonson. The overall impression is an impressive painting with rich, textured acrylic and oil paints, strong contrasting transitions, and elements of fashion illustration, glamour, and humor. No extraneous details; insect figures only.
The world of insects is truly amazing and so diverse! I used to be really into macro photography, and through my lens I discovered the unfathomable world of these relatively tiny creatures: their colours, shapes and even their behaviour... I never imagined that such unusual insects could be dressed in any way at all, let alone in such stylish outfits... But ‘Claude’ managed to do just that, much to my delight, and for which I am grateful to him.
