**Tracey Moffatt (b. 1960)
#Australia
Tracey Moffatt’s work is cinematic and highly staged, weaving narratives about race, desire, and cultural myth. Her images often part of carefully composed sequences use actors, props, and constructed sets to tell stories that are both personal and socially resonant.
When male bodies appear, they are characters in a story: ambiguous, theatrical, sometimes menacing or wounded, and always placed within larger questions of identity and belonging. Moffatt’s photography feels like a scene from a remembered film: stylized color grading, precise mise-en-scène, and symbolic props that invite multiple readings.
The work asks questions more than it supplies answers, leaving viewers to inhabit the suspended moment.
