A hard-bitten post-apocalyptic bandit chieftain stands in a disordered and dusty library abandoned a century before ; he holds a torch and grins evilly as he looks around at the library as he stands in the center of the image, obviously planning to set the library on fire out of spite and ignorant dogmatism ; he is surrounded by shelves on the walls, and one wall has a partially broken stained glass window, and the center area has scattered chairs and tables ; the scene is depicted in the style of Dave McKean, Jeremy Mann, Christopher Bucklow and Stephen Gammell
The brigand has standing orders to burn libraries to ash, so the world can never overpopulate and thereby thwart natural selection by keeping the weak and sick alive.
There is no single, overarching story-line connecting all twelve characters in this series together. However, some of the portraits' subjects MIGHT share a story line, particularly the first seven, some or all of whom could conceivably be part of a single community. In contrast to this are the last five (like this one), each of whom would almost certainly have their own story-line. Sadly, I don't have any of the story-lines fleshed out yet.
