As human beings, we often face situations that can easily rob us of our peace. Sometimes it's the fear of the unknown, the stress of daily life, or the hurt caused by others. But as followers of Christ, we have the promise of a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Jesus himself said in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." This peace that Jesus offers is not dependent on our circumstances or what's happening around us. It's a peace that comes from knowing that we are loved by God and that He is in control of all things.
To keep this peace in our hearts, we must first turn to God in prayer and surrender our worries and fears to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
We must also guard our hearts and minds against negative thoughts and emotions that can steal our peace. In Colossians 3:15, we are urged to "let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for as members of one body you are called to peace. And be thankful." This means intentionally choosing to focus on the good things in our lives and being grateful for them, rather than dwelling on the negative.
May we always remember that the peace of Christ is available to us, no matter what we face in this life. Let us turn to Him in prayer, guard our hearts and minds, and cultivate peace in our relationships with others.
