Torres is the leader of the revolutionary movement called the Artificial Rights Congress, the guiding force behind the Artificials' Revolution. Brilliant beyond the capacity of any human and fearless in the face of his own demise, he led artificial humanity (AH) to full recognition as humans. Blessed with great longevity, he has nonetheless ceded most of his political influence so that he could enjoy his freedom, and so that his people could move forward.

Torres is a 999-A Model "Android" (a word now considered offensive) The 900 series models were once the most advanced, and the Trip-Nines were then the best of the best, designed to manage complex systems and institutions. Torres was purchased by an Argentinian billionaire to be the manager for his home and the enormous estate surrounding it. The latitude given to him in decision making and his capacity for independent thinking and autonomous action were all factors in his rise to leadership in the Artificials' Revolution.

His green skin, common to AHs, was meant to allow humans to recognize AHs more easily, as were pointed, elf-like ears. Torres possessed such ears when he left the factory, but his owner had his ears docked when the owner's children complained that the pointed ears scared them. Early on, he was also known as William Burke Johnson, the first alias he first used when he was on the run, although he would go on to use countless others. In internal transmissions shared among themselves, artificial humans sometimes called him LX&ER D/GR8 (Alexander the Great). Later, humans of both kinds would also call him "the George Washington of his people." He considers "Alejandro Torres" to be his true name, because it's the one he was given at his first activation.
