As Christians, we are called to pursue Jesus with all our hearts, minds, and souls. Sometimes, that pursuit requires us to set aside the distractions of the world and focus on our spiritual lives. One way we can do that is through fasting.
Fasting involves voluntarily abstaining from food and/or other forms of entertainment or comfort for a period of time, in order to focus more intently on our relationship with God. It can be a powerful way to draw closer to Jesus, seek His guidance, and deepen our faith.
If you feel called to embark on a journey of fasting, it's important to be intentional and prayerful about your approach. You may want to start with a shorter fast, such as skipping one meal a day for a week, and gradually work your way up to longer periods of fasting.
During fasting, it's important to stay focused on Jesus and seek His presence in your life. Spend time in prayer, reading scripture, and engaging in other spiritual practices that will help us draw closer to God.
It's important to remember that fasting is not a way to earn God's favor or manipulate His blessings. Rather, it's a way to humbly seek God's will and purpose for our lives, and to align our hearts and minds with His plan. As Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
When we fast, we are choosing to deny ourselves something that we normally enjoy, in order to focus more fully on our spiritual lives. This can be a challenging and humbling experience, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. As we turn our hearts and minds toward God, we may find that our prayers are more focused, our worship more meaningful, and our relationship with Jesus more intimate.
