Years & years, they’d flown, & into a woman she’d grown; yet inside she felt like a little girl, trapped in another’s sour-breath swirl. She found him, now, shrunken & frail of bone. His shame, a secret he’d borne all alone, & it went far further back than anyone’d known. She stared, trembling in the depth of her trauma, then it hit, suddenly, for seconds -split, she’d sensed they were kindred in an unlovable spirit. She shook it off as unnecessary drama. She gazed deep as she handed him a flower, & said I pick you. Then she walked away in her power, knowing she’d done the world a favor, good & true; for her parting gift - the extended flower – it had a sour breath, too.
