See who gave your art a 'try' #24

Feature Open
Amstel Amstel · opened

I really love the 'try' feature, but it'd be cool if it was expanded a bit:

  • See WHO gave your idea a try
  • See what original someone's art was based on, if they used the 'try' feature on someone's work.

  • #31 author of the original image

I don't know if this has already been requested, but would it be possible to automatically add the name of the original image author when a "Try It" is performed ?

Same request as #24: credit the original author when someone uses Try. Votes and comments moved there.

  • #91 When someone tries someone's prompt, you should see who is trying it. The originator should automatically get credit.

I think it needs to be the genuinely original artist if they have tried a try.

Question... what if i "try" a dream, then use the magic wand the prompt?

Having clicked Try It it can be very useful to modify aspects of prompt before generating - how much alteration would be appropriate before one's generation took over as a New Dream to then be available for Try It? If quite different to the image one had started from by Trying It, it wouldn't be appropriate if the original artist continued to be credited down the line.

Genau das fehlt mir auch. Dann kann man feststellen, wer die Prompts einfach kopiert.

It would be perfect if the signatures of all the original contributing authors were automatically added to the final image—it would save me so much work manually listing the lineage of "my" image! It would be even better if the same applied to the base images used. My only concern is whether there would be any room left for the actual image itself, given all those signatures...;-)

  • *™Mellissa*/AI Art

Yes yes please, I also sent emails, certain big dreamers tent to copy and not mention, seeing my prompt( dream) on the front page.yet no mention

Maybe automatically add the comment "Image is based on a "Try" of <image address of original dream>". Then people can visit and like the original if they want to.

è una ottima idea. Sarebbero annullati tutti quegli pseudo-creatori che si prendono guadagni quotidiani, anche sostanziosi, a copiare immagini e prompt ideati dai bravi autori

I agree. With many of my images I spend a lot of points, and then someone comes along and copies and pastes my prompt, changes it slightly, and can get 200 points from an editor's choice, or at least points from tries on their result, after I have spent all of those points to get there. A credit gives me nothing, but acknowledgement at least might encourage others to use the original try as well.

Yes totally agree! Since I have started joining in and interacting with the community, checking out galleries, I have tried and remixed a couple of prompts and gave manual credit with one in Deep Dream when I published the art and the other I credited in picsart where I published that art. It would be much easier to have an auto attachment.

I agree, and also if you try someone's prompt, it should be easy to find from whom you got the prompt. I have spent a lot of time trying to find where I got the original prompt. Some are obvious, but if you like a lot of pictures, you may not remember which artist you did a try-it on. If you're doing this from a phone or a tablet, you have to remember to manually write their name down because it's really hard to find after the fact. I try the search feature using the most pertinent part of the prompt, but the search feature in DDG is really bad. You get a thousand pictures, many of them totally unrelated to what you typed in. Just a quick link-back would be nice.

i agree also.. i am guilty of this as i cant remember where the prompt came from...so I can give them credit,,

Personally, I would at least offer a checkbox allowing the user to choose whether the other person sees that I’ve created a "try" based on their idea, and I would include a notification saying, "User XYZ has created a 'Dream try it' based on yours."
Please keep in mind that not every "try it" is successful or even gets published.
In other words, you have a responsibility regarding how you handle that information and must avoid "bothering" the other person (sorry, I can't phrase it any better—I'm not a native speaker/writer).
Additionally, a second checkbox might be handy to automatically fill in the source—i.e., the Dream and/or the original creator (the other user)—when I use the "Try it" feature.
With the checkboxes, everyone would have a choice rather than facing an automatic requirement—something that might otherwise deter "dreamers" from clicking the "Try it" button.

Often a Try It prompt is modified substantially before clicking to actually activate the Try It. How could it be decided how much alteration would deem it to be a new prompt? A bit of a minefield!

  • Unreal

I think modifying the current setup could actually deter many users from using DDG rather than other AI generators.

Whilst I can see why people want this, I suspect less people would then use Try It (which could be detrimental to DDG's popularity). Could also mean less credit received by people using one's prompts via Try It.

  • *™Mellissa*/AI Art

Yes! Ok it's not hard to copy and paste or use the magicwand, but here is alot of dreamers that try as is and still nit mention where they got it, instead slapping their name on. So I would like to see how my dream was used or changed. Or atleast just show who tried

@Unreal: But why? Why would people care if the original author of a prompt was named? I wouldn't mind for sure. Also, personally I wouldn't score based on whether it was someone's original prompt or not.

This is honestly one of the reasons I haven't invested much time in building a following here. I've seen that many people use my images as a base for their own versions — but I rarely get to see where they end up. Once, by pure chance, I stumbled on a result made from one of my images, and I was a little taken aback: it had so many likes and comments, while I'd gotten just a single like from it. 😅 It made me think that maybe there should be more visibility around the fact that a published image is built on someone else's original prompt. it's a reason why I am not motivating enough to make me want to be here, engage, or spend money on a subscription.

@LILLY, you totally nailed it. Imagine working so hard on a prompt, you post it - maybe you're luck to get a few likes. Then someone "Tries" it, and they got tons of likes. It makes no sense. There are so many ways to get around it. Many platforms offer a "Remix" feature and it always ties back to the originator of the prompt. If you end up changing the prompt so much that it barely resembles the original, the system will say it's no longer a Remix. Now it's your own image. How hard is it to implement that? Not hard at all.

I think it's more complicated than that. I f one has made substantial alterations to a try it prompt, (or crucially, used a guide image of one's own making), then it can be much more one's creation than the agitator of the try it author. Having said that when I do a straightforward try it, I do usually credit the prompts author if I can still recall or check who it was!

  • Unreal
    Unreal

    Originator not agitator!!

  • *™Mellissa*/AI Art
    *™Mellissa*/AI Art

Just to add, I go on certain big dreamers profile and see one of my dreams, but they modify the prompt so much but the results are so the same as my dream, and then they have the ordasity to say don't take his name out of it but the dream got 200 like and 20 comments but its a dream they did not even think about they just went sbd changed the wording so much that it looks like their creation and you can't pin point, so this whole page is full of pirates.

  • JadeCyberNZ Landscapes & Wildlife

I agree. That's why every time I try someone's prompt, I put the username, image name and link in the top of the description of the generated image to give credit to that user.

Using a prompt plus adjustments, or a section of a prompt, makes a user no more of a "pirate" than anyone using a base image they did not produce from scratch themselves! If one cannot derive ideas from others then all AI art would be impossible - the entire concept relies on the AI gathering together what innumerable other creators have done over centuries, together with everything being created today both manually and electronically. So no one is a 'Pirate' unless everyone using AI is! And no AI creation would be a great loss.
