The Prisoner's Dilemma is a situation where two persons have to make a choice. If one person stays quiet and the other confesses, the confessor gets a lighter punishment. If both confess, they both get a moderate punishment. If both stay quiet, they get a lesser punishment. They have to decide without knowing what the other person will do. They might both confess to be safe, even though it's not the best choice for both. It shows that sometimes people make choices that aren't best for everyone when they're worried about themselves.
