Larry Bell, president of Bell Aircraft Company, spearheaded the project. At the same time, General Electric developed the jet engine, initially a version of the British Whittle engine. A picture of Larry Bell in front of the blueprint was the president of General Electric. P-59B AiracometB Airacomet. Designed and built in great secrecy during World War II, the P-59 was America's first jet aircraft. The jet was compiled in April 1941
